The Education Fund offers programs that might be of interest to members covered under the collective bargaining contract; and the Education Fund is responsible for developing courses to assist members in upgrading and enhancing their skills in order to function more effectively in carrying out their responsibilities.
Workplace Literacy Programs are designed to assist members with improving workplace skills in Management, Microsoft Office Suite, and written expression and verbal communication skills.
are developed, on an as-needed basis, to assist members in preparing for "targeted" civil service promotional and open competitive exams leading to management, computer skills, and other targeted titles.
Exam leading to civil service employment for NYC employees anre administered and conducted by the NYC Department of citywide Administrative Services (DCAS) and the School construction Authority (SCA).
DCAS and SCA prepare tentative yearly exam schedules. Exams are announced (open for filing) on a monthly basis.
Financial Seminars are highly recommended for the newly covered member to Local 1180 and should be of special interest for the member with less than three to five years before retirement.
Candidates for certificate programs must:
- Complete all program course requirements including attendance, assignments, tests and any projects assigned by the instructor
- Achieve a grade of “C+” or better in pre-requisites to enroll in the next course of an advancing series.
All classes are held at the Union offices at 6 Harrison Street in lower Manhattan
