Policies & Procedures

Registration:
Registration is done on a first come first served basis. Students are not officially registered until they have completed the registration process

Tuition and Fees:
The Education Fund is instituting the “refundable deposit” in order to ensure that members who sign up for courses make every effort to actually complete the courses.  The amounts for the “refundable deposit” will be based on course hours and are substantially less than the actual cost of similar courses taken outside of the union (and you get your deposit back when you complete the union course).

Changes in Program:
The Education Committee reserves the right to cancel courses, to make substitution in instructors, and to change the days, times, and location of classes if necessary.

Session Guarantee:
Bad weather or other unforeseen circumstances may cause the cancellation of a class session.  Bad weather cancellation information will be e-mailed to the address that was used when registering for classes or seminars.  We guarantee that the number of sessions and/or number of hours specified for each course will be given.

Course Cancellation:
Courses are subject to minimum enrollment. When courses are cancelled, students may transfer to another course or receive a full refund.

Payment Process:
Payment must be received no later than THREE days before the first class.

Periodic Updates:
Periodic updates will be e-mailed to all students.

Class Size:
Class size depends on the type of class offered.

For example:

  • Seminars require a minimum of 50 and a maximum of 80
  • All other courses require a minimum of 30 and a maximum of 50

However, the average daily attendance for all classes, except seminars, must be maintained at 10 to 12 students per class, per session for the duration of the class.

Refund:
If circumstances arise where a student may have to withdraw from a class, a refund may be made on a case by case basis.

Request for a refund must be submitted in writing, to WORKPLACE LITERACY COORDINATOR with a copy of the registration receipt. Lack of attendance does not constitute withdrawal and eligibility for a refund.

If a class is cancelled by the Education Committee, 100% of the deposit will be refunded.

100% refund upon completion of 75% of the course.
